In the village of Kalavryta 71 years have passed since 700 people (amounting to almost the entire male population at the time), were shot dead by the German occupation army on the 13th of December 1941.  The anniversary was commemorated by the residents of Kalavryta today with a march to the hill near the village were the execution took place, a memorial service and an offering of wraths in honor of the deceased.


On the occasion of the holocaust of Kalavryta, Syriza is organizing a speech by Member of the European Parliament Giorgos Katrougalos, who will speak about the forced loan to Germany during the occupation and about War Reparations. Member of Syriza Human Rights Committee Tassia Christodoulopoulou will also speak on Nazism and Fascism.  Syriza Member of the European Parliament Manolis Glezos will participate in the conversation through Skype.


One woman dead, seven people injured – three of them heavily-  after a car pile-up, involving at least 35 cars, in the 60th kilometer of the Athens - Lamia National Road, in the direction towards Athens, close to  Schimatari. The injured were transferred to the hospital of Halkida.


The reaction of Syriza to European Commission chiefJean-Claude Juncker’s statements,  that he would prefer “familiar faces”  for the outcome of the presidential elections in Greece, is escalating.  Andreas Karitzis demanded the resignation of Jean-Claude Juncker while Member of European Parliament Giorgos Katrougalos asked the Commission to take a stand on the issue of inappropriate intervention in state members’ internal political affairs.


European Finance CommissionerPierre Moscovici is expected for an official visit to Greece on Monday. During his stay in Athens Mr. Moscovici  will meet PM Antonis Samaras, Finance Minister Mr. Hardouvelis and Mr. Stournaras from the Bank of Greece, while it is not clear yet if he will meet the opposition leader Alexis Tsipras.


Deutsche Welle reports that premature elections are very probable in Greece, considering that the balance of powers within the parliament does not ensure the election of a president.  This, however, is no cause of concern for the German government, as it seems prepared for the possibility of a victory of Syriza.


Syriza leads over Nea Dimokratia  by 3.1 points in intention of vote, according to two new polls,  the weekly barometer by Metron Analysis and Interview company for “Vergina Tv”.



Member of the European Parliament Sofia Sakorafa has brought the issue of the agreement for the sale of Hellenikon to Lamda Development.   Mrs. Sakorafa questions the legitimacy of the auction procedures, while leader of Syriza  Alexis Tsipras has resolved to re-examine all the contracts signed by TAIPED.


Major Athens hospitals Laiko and Evangelismos have run out of anti-aids drugs.  As the Association of HIV Positive Patients reports, patients treated in these two hospitals currently have no access to the medication they need.


A Nationwide Assembly of the Fighting Employees of ERT is meeting in the conference hall of ETHOEAP for two successive days in order to discuss proposals for the re-opening of ERT. The procedure started today at 2p.m. and will be continued tomorrow.

United States Foreign Minister John Kerry and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov are meeting in Rome on Monday, to discuss the situation in the Middle East, Ukraine and Syria, as was announced by the State Department.
