Police arrest Golden Dawn leader, MP's and senior members
Last Saturday, the police arrested leading members of the neo-nazi political party of Golden Dawn.
The secretary general of Golden Dawn, Nikos Michaloliakos, six members of parliament, many medium ranked party members are accused for participating in a criminal organization. Moreover, two police officers were arrested. The members of the Golden Dawn are accused for a series of criminal offences with triggering event the murder of Pavlos Fyssas.
Meanwhile, legislation for the suspension of state funding to political parties whose leading members or MPs, have been accused or prosecuted for criminal activities, has been submitted to the parliament, and is being discussed today.
The deputy president of the government, Evaggelos Venizelos, affirmed that there is no possibility for early general elections on the occasion of the developments regarding the Golden Dawn. On the contrary, he announced the government’s intention to issue legislative regulations that will exclude the possibility of election in the periphery in case of resignation by the members of parliament of Golden Dawn.
